Certificate Program Requirements

Here are the Certificate Options in Horticultural Therapy:

1. Those students who complete only the Horticultural Therapy courses will receive a certificate in Basic Horticultural Therapy.
2. Those students who complete the entire sequence of courses will receive a certificate in Horticultural Therapy.

Hort Therapy Classes

- Students Must Complete Each of These

• Introduction to Horticultural Therapy - 3 units
• Therapeutic Landscape Design - 2 units
• Horticulture for Special Populations - 3 units
• Garden and Nature Crafts - 1 unit
• Occupational Work Experience in Horticultural Therapy - 2 units

Plant Classes

- Choose Two

• The Herb Garden - 1 unit
• The Edible Garden - 1 unit
• The Flower Garden - 1 unit
• The Rose Garden - 1 unit

Horticulture Classes

- These classes may be completed online or at a local college.

• Introduction to Horticulture - 3 units
• Plant Propagation - 3 units

Three unit classes include 54 hours of online instruction, site visits, participation and volunteer hours.

Two unit classes include 36 hours of online instruction, site visits, participation and volunteer hours.

One unit classes include 18 hours of online instruction, site visits, participation and volunteer hours.

The Occupational Work Experience class can include an internship in horticultural therapy, it can be paid or unpaid.

Throughout this program, volunteer hours, workshops attended for class assignments and work experience internship hours can be used when applying for Professional Registration.
